Riva del Garda is located on Trentino-Garda, at the northern end of the Lake.
This town offers a rich variety of enchanting landscapes, with a very suggestive view, given its position enclosed in the surrounding mountains.
A paradise for sportsmen, it has become a point of reference for those who practice windsurfing, sailing, cycling, mtb, trekking, climbing, rowing and tennis. Even its most famous events are related to the sport world, such as the Bike Festival, the Garda Trentino Half Marathon and EMTB Adventure, even if there are events of pure entertainment such as the beloved Fairy Tale Night.
Riva is a very pleasant place to visit, with long beaches, where you can relax admiring the landscape and with its streets full of shops and locals.
The path connects Riva del Garda to Lake Ledro and is just under 10 km long.
It can be covered on foot or by bike, preferably in spring and autumn when the temperature is pleasant. The path is slightly uphill, but not tiring. You can also walk with children, but you need comfortable shoes because it is unpaved. Going up you can admire a unique perspective of Lake Garda, with suggestive views that help you immerse yourself in nature.
Ideal for photography lovers.
Santa Barbara is a small church built in the 1920s by the miners who created a water supply connection from Lake Ledro to the hydroelectric power station in Riva del Garda. Situated at about 600 meters of altitude difference, it is quite difficult to reach, because the path is rough, with steep slopes and sometimes slippery rocks. To climb it is better to be equipped with comfortable shoes, possibly trekking shoes. From the church, you can enjoy a magnificent panorama and along the path, there are several benches, where you can stop and rest.
Symbol of the city, it was built at the beginning of the 16th century for defensive purposes and subsequently destroyed in 1703 by the French. Currently it can be reached with a steep walk of about 20 minutes, starting from the center of Riva del Garda and reaching 200 meters above sea level, also a panoramic lift is under construction to offer a more comfortable alternative to those who want to reach it.
In addition to exhibition center of the Segantini civic gallery in Arco, the Alto Garda Museum has a second location in Riva, inside the ancient medieval fortress of the town. In this castle fortress dating back to the XII century there are permanent exhibitions (art gallery, archaeology and history) and also some temporary exhibitions. You can also access the “INvento”, the inventive space, where children together with their families can learn through fun activities and creative games.
The hydroelectric power station overlooks the lake and was built in the 1920s by the architect of Gabriele d'Annunzio, Giancarlo Maroni. The guided tour is conducted by qualified personnel, which is able to involve children thanks to the presence of some interactive activities. The visit lasts about 2 hours; comfortable shoes and a windbreaker are recommended.
