Description

Gardone Riviera is located on the western shore of Lake Garda. The area was already settled in Roman times by the Langobards, whose name is derived from the Old High German word warda (fortress).

In modern history, Gardone is known for being part of the Italian Social Republic – more commonly known as the Republic of Salò – from 1943 to 1945. It was home to ministries and embassies at the time.

Don’t miss out on a visit to the national monument Vittoriale degli Italiani, a museum complex on the lake front and former residence of poet Garbriele D’Annunzio who lived here from 1921 to 1938.

Gardone Riviera prides itself to be the city with the most central European atmosphere.

2011, 2012 and 2013 it was awarded the environmental award “Blue Flag”.
